Currently manage the environmental, health and safety function of a Forbes top 100 aerospace manufacturing operation. Environmental functions include managing of, but not limited to, chemical processing lines, on site wastewater treatment system, manifesting of hazardous wastes, spray booth emission operations, industrial ovens and autoclaves. Develop, recommend and implement programs to remain in compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations including documentation, reporting, permitting, training and policy development. Oversee the technical activities involved with the management of workers compensation claims, hazardous materials and chemicals. Manage and maintain: IIPP, OSHA, CUPA, DTSC, SWPPP, AQMD Title V Permits, ARB, CIWMB, LACSD documents and reports. Safety/Environmental functions include accident and injury investigations, root cause analysis and counter measures to prevent reoccurrences. Identify least waste way (Lean) and safe working procedures utilizing kaizen and 6S events to prevent injuries and reduce waste. Established a safety committee team, developed a Business Continuity Plan, initiated a facility wide emergency evacuation drill and developed an emergency evacuation plan. Train employees in the use of company safety equipment, air pollution control devices and specialized training in overhead crane safety, forklifts, CPR, AED, first aid, bloodborne pathogens, emergency oxygen, respirator test fitting and in chemical storage and handling. Most recent major accomplishment includes obtaining the company’s first prestigious State Award “WRAP” (Waste Reduction Awards Program) for the year 2010.

 

April 2004 - October 2007:        Director of Safety

Served as the Director of Safety for a mid-size refuse and recycling company of 200 employees. Responsibilities included but not limited to: Managing of workers compensation claims, investigating accidents, injuries, vehicle fires, oil and hydraulic spills and finding solutions for prevention of re-occurrences. Managed and maintained the OSHA 300/A, accident reports, DMV Pull Notice Program, records and permits to remain in compliance with regulatory agencies such as, OSHA, AQMD, State Water and Air Resource Boards, Fire Departments, DMV, DOT, LA County Sanitation District, franchised cities and landfills. Maintained and updated the Code of Safe Practices, IIPP, CUPA, DTSC, MSDS and the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program. Created and implemented an employee safety recognition program for injury and accident free employees. Managed, directed and trained employees in the use of company equipment, forklifts, cranes, PPE and methods of safe working practices through the means of safety meetings, hands on training, newsletters and announcements.

Responsibilities included researching and reviewing legal findings and related documents that form the basis for compliance with current environmental laws and regulations. Coordinated and participated in meetings to gather input and meet procedural requirements. Managed the city's AB939 waste reduction mandate and the city's SB1066 time extension required by the California Integrated Waste Management Board. Provided written and oral information related to specific projects or environmental concerns. Developed and implemented one of California’s first Construction and Demolition Waste Management plans. Developed and implemented an in-house desk side recycling program and a City wide bus shelter recycling program. Wrote articles for the City’s monthly newsletter and interfaced with the public during special City events to assist with environmental concerns in the community.

Served as project team leader for the decontamination of chillers, radiators, manifolds, external heat exchangers and closed loop systems. Updated and maintained CUPA forms, updated the company’s safety contingency plan, emergency evacuation plan, plant layout and design, conducted and followed up on company safety inspections. Coordinated safety meetings and trained personnel in the proper use of PPE and in DOT regulations for the transportation of hazardous materials. Provided assistance in the creation of MSDS’s for chemicals produced in the research and development laboratory.
